I will say since the toon doesn't start until about a minute in due to the ad it was a little too long.

The music is constantly being cut off for jokes sake or to change to something else, it is loud and noticeable maybe turning it down a bit would help. The simple art style is benefitting you since it is easier to animate the characters for the entire length of the animation. The ending was very reminiscent of roadrunner and coyote. It's fun and got some wacky characters involved. I hope you keep making these better.

This is a crazy good episode, I think there is potential for this as a series as well. (I know you already confirmed on working on the next episode, so with that in mind good luck!)

I'll start with the plot, I really like the simplicity of it because that fits this old 90-2000's vibe you are going for. The idea of humans vs demons in a tournament reminds me of a mortal kombat ladder, as well as the fitting gore style bludgeoning. I love the relationships of the characters and I think their dynamics are fun to see play off each other. Speaking of which, the character designs are great! Gogo and Mama are very iconic and stand out, Nono is expressive and the demon king emperor Koro is goofy but menacing at the same time. The side characters like the Akumugai Ogre team, the announcer and the other humans in the beginning cutscene were also nicely detailed, and I do appreciate that. A lot of times extras are basic or boring to watch.

However, the inclusion of live action is not my favorite, (I do understand newgrounds recently had a 'live action jam,' with that in mind: I am not referring to the emperor of Japan. Sephirothsword57 was funny to see.) the cuts of Japanese advertisements and shows on this vhs distract me, but they do help the episode of punch punch forever to feel like it was on air at some point, in that you were successful. I think it is mainly a style choice, you could of animated a second or two of a fake Japanese commercial to fit the show, which would be a bit more work and also might be just as confusing, or removed them altogether but its just an idea. While on the topic of the vhs style, while I do like it; the fast-forwarding does cement the vhs feeling but that idea could of been implemented in the next episode and each one after it. Just so we can see the full opening just once before it becomes too mundane for reoccurring viewers.

Thank you for not overusing the vhs quality, I strongly dislike when creators portray media with several filters over their work which degrades the quality (too much so). Back to the episode, the voice acting is top notch and the backgrounds are gorgeous. I commend your BG artists on this project! Your animation is stellar, your quality never ceases to amaze me. I enjoyed the action sequences and the character animation when they are speaking and moving around slightly. The sound effects add to the comedy of the piece as a whole, and the jokes fit right alongside the story as well which is really good.

I think my favorite parts are...
-The gore, keep it coming!!!
-The bumpers and the art for them, so cute and polished.
-The ost! Wow its so good, it makes the style.
-Last but not leastly, the opening was awesome. You and Sasaki Kissa did a fantastic job.

Since the genre is comedy, I don't want to take the intricacies of the story too seriously, its an exciting playful show with a simple premise and you make that work really well.
Nice job Speedo!

thanks for the extensive review!
understandable if you're not a fan of the live action ads cutting in. it sort of evolved from something i used to do which was occasionally posting random out of context scenes from obscure japanese movies to my twitter, and i started to amass a collection of random dumb clips on my computer (like the scene at the very end). i thought about incorporating them into PPF instead, and along with knowing that i was gonna be doing the eyecatcher thing, cutting in a few ads in the middle made sense too. will just have to wait until i inevitably pick the wrong movie clip and get a copyright strike and then the live action segments will mysteriously disappear from future instalments!

on fast forwarding the "lore" at the beginning, i think was a symptom of my insecurity on making something original again after so long, in that i was very worried about taking up too much of the viewers time. i was constantly trying to cut down the script too, trying to make it no longer than 5 minutes etc, so "fast forwarding" the exposition was one of the casualties of that. it used to be completely fast forwarded from the beginning, but later on i decided to let it at least play at normal speed for a few seconds. i like your idea too of leaving the fast forward joke for a future episode if it was a recurring segment, but oh well. now that the "lore dump" is out of the way in this one, i don't think i'll bother repeating that for future eps.

and glad the more subtle vhs filter is appreciated! the software i used to render it took ages, but it was worth it i think, being on the more tasteful side. see my old Naruto toon for much less tasteful vhs filter lol
i wasn't necessarily planning on using a vhs filter to begin with either in favor of trying to make it look more like a pristine bluray scan of an old anime, until i had the idea to incorporate the movie/ad clips.

and glad you liked the bumpers too! i'm looking forward to having more guest artists/animators do those

cheers!

Great short, I love the dynamic of these too goobers. The animation style is cute and both vas killed it!

Cool trailer, the animations look great. I hope the final game is as interesting as the trailer.

I love the ATTENTION bumpers, very cool animation. The 2d and 3d work super well together, i just dont like the 2d being warped in some scenes like when the elevator is going up. i also wasnt sure if having a black screen for a second was intentional after the bomb blew up. Great work!

I love the way you animated each character, It's a rememberable short that has a lot of great visuals to go with it. The upshot of the moving statue is one of my favorite stills. (the shading is top notch) I think the backgrounds are very busy, but in terms of the style it was superb.

I love it love it love it! The animation is so good, and well written. Rina chans voice acting was always stellar in the old ng flash days. I love the way Conehead leaps onto the piano and cracks his fingers, it looks great. I love that each of the knights have a different personality that you have to pay attention to. I love when orange was trying to eat the cake with one of the guards. The derpy reference was funny too just to name a few of my favorite parts. It is an oldie, but a goodie. I just had to leave a review!

I wanna start with the fact I really loved the loops in the animation, the chicken-bird people walking, and the girl in the robot running towards the screen were very well done, The backgrounds had a great style and they matched well with the characters. That being said the colors also looked great, your visual story telling speaks for itself. All the sounds were fitting and so were the music tracks. You did a masterful job on the story and action sequences. I loved it!

I love the characters, and the joke is fun. Great style for the demons and the cute butterfly, I loved it!

I remember seeing this re-uploaded to youtube, it is super funny and a hilarious parody that does have a catchy beat. It didn't fully loop at the end. But this has to be my favorite toonlink animation ever, thank you for making this!
